Curbing Pregnancy Cravings

Experiencing pregnancy cravings? You’re not alone! Many women throughout their pregnancies experience cravings for food from dairy and sweets to salty and savory. While it’s not entirely known why these cravings occur, there are a few ways to help keep them under control.

Prepare Meals and Snacks Ahead of Time

Getting a jump start on your meal and snack preparation can help you avoid giving in to any unhealthy food cravings. Think of it as a “battle plan” or line of defense against the cravings that you can stick to, having the meals already set aside and ready to go for when you get hungry. This way, you won’t be as tempted to make something else for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and can stick to a healthy, regular eating routine.

Take Your Prenatal Vitamins

In some instances, pregnancy cravings can be a result of your body needing certain nutrients. Be sure to be taking your prenatal vitamins regularly to ensure your body is getting the supplements it needs. For more information about prenatal vitamins, click here

Stay Hydrated

Drinking lots of water and staying hydrated can help curb those pregnancy cravings big time. When you start to feel cravings, try drinking a glass of water and give it ten or so minutes to settle in your stomach. Often, this can reduce the feelings of craving and hunger.

Kick Back and Relax

Allow yourself time to relax, resting your body, mind, and emotions. Remember that it’s okay to indulge your cravings every now and then, so satisfy those cravings through careful portion control and monitoring.

If you ever feel your pregnancy cravings are getting out of control, it can also help to talk to a specialist for support. You can call and speak to any available member of our clinic.
