Hysterectomy

hysterectomy

Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus. Hysterectomy is one of the most commonly performed gynecological surgical procedures in treatment of problems of pelvic pain, uterine bleeding, pelvic tumors and cancers. Removal of the uterus renders a woman unable to bear children and has operation related risks as well as possible long-term effects, so the surgery is normally recommended only when other treatment options are not available or have failed.

Hysterectomy may be done:

  • by Da Vinci Laprascope
  • by traditional Laprascope
  • through an incision of the vagina
  • through a small abdominal bikini incision
  • through large midline incision of the abdomen

Hysterectomy my also involve removal of one or both ovaries (oophorectomy), fallopian tubes and other surrounding structures.
